When my parents and I moved to Palo Alto, California, in September 1980, I began to hear a wider range of music on the radio than I had been hearing for the previous few years in Toledo, Ohio. I don't remember what stations I listened to, but I do remember how I kept hearing a particular style I really enjoyed. But for some reason I never heard what any of the songs were or which bands were playing them. Then, in the course of a few weeks, I learned that all those songs I had thought were one style were actually by one band with a singular sound: Creedence Clearwater Revival.
