Sixty years ago today, on 9 February 1962, my parents got married. So it's the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding – but it seems to me that it would be odd to call it their sixtieth wedding anniversary (the diamond anniversary, as Wikipedia just informed me). After all, their marriage ended in divorce in 1983, so they stopped counting anniversaries after that, and even if they had stayed together, my father died in 2016, so they would not have been married for sixty years. But it's still an occasion worth noting – and in fact it was my mother herself, the other day, who drew my attention to such a nice round number. (Andrew Shields, #111words, 9 February 2022)
