Scenes from today's demonstration for Ukraine in Basel

Today's demonstration in Basel against the Russian war on Ukraine began on Barfüsserplatz at 2 pm with speeches that also condemned the Swiss government's hesitancy about freezing Russian bank accounts. Not many people in the crowd (estimated at about two thousand strong) were wearing masks, but when the organizers called for people to put them on because the pandemic is not over, many did. As the crowd followed the tram line down Gerbergasse past a fitness studio, three young men on a break from their workout sat inside the window and gawked at the demonstrators – or perhaps the one who was gesticulating was explaining the nuances of Ukraine to his friends.
