Far-right parties in Germany, Switzerland, and the United States

In his article today on tomorrow's election for the German Bundestag, Daniel Binswanger observes that the far-right AfD (Alternative for Germany) may get around 10% of the vote but has no chance of being part of a coalition government because none of the other parties will even consider working with them. He adds that this situation is enough to make those who oppose far-right parties in Switzerland envious, as the far-right Swiss People's Party is a constant presence in the Swiss Federal Council. But as an American in Switzerland, I find the situation in the United States even worse, where a far-right wing has taken over one of the mainstream parties.
