Except for
one short trip, my family's car has been parked right outside our house for a
month now, and a layer of pollen from the springtime trees has settled on it. While
on my daily walk today to get some exercise, I noticed that many others cars
are also covered in pollen. That's no surprise, given the Swiss stay-at-home policy
during the pandemic. But it does raise a question for me about any future return
to "normalcy": as the Basel region has such excellent public transit,
what if we try to resist "the old normal" and just stop using our cars
– or at least radically reduce our use of them? (Andrew Shields, #111words, 14 April)
