Knocking it out in a minute

In her April 23 "Letter from an American", Heather Cox Richardson wonders about "Trump's emphasis on dramatic cures for Covid-19", such as hydroxychloroquine or his remark about injecting bleach: "And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute." Trump wants a heroic solution to a situation that has no place for individuals who address problems with decisive, instinctive action. His trivial understanding of drama leaves out the hero's tragic hubris that leads to his downfall; instead, he sees only the myth of the brilliant flash of insight that would confirm, as he claimed in 2016 at the Republican National Convention, that "I alone can fix it."
