A friend sent me a picture from the 1980s yesterday that reminded of a part of my life back then that I don’t remember very often: I often think about learning to speak German, to play guitar, to write poetry, to interpret literature and to discuss philosophy, as well as about working in coffee shops and libraries, becoming a devoted fan of The Grateful Dead, and being a student DJ who ended up specializing in jazz, but I also volunteered for a couple of years at the student-run Stanford Recycling Center, especially on Saturdays with Wade Grey, who ran the center and showed me the loquat trees on the Stanford campus.
