Simfy listening: Isobel Campbell and Mark Lonegan, HawkHere's another pairing I've heard great things about and am disappointed by. The album is atmospheric without building up any tension; it's surprising that a band with a singer (Lonegan) with such a dark voice seems so unthreatening, so bland. The beginning is especially dull, but I stuck it out and enjoyed the cover of "Time of the Season," and then things do pick up quite a bit at the end, culminating in a fine closer called "Lately." Still, given the hype, I sure expected more from these two.

i haven't heard all of the songs, but i actually like the pairing of these two. though yes, lanegan sounds darker when doing his thing.
