The trinational background of my three children – and of United States Vice President Kamala Harris

Like Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States and the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee for the United States presidential election on 5 November, 2024, my children have three national backgrounds. Harris's parents were born and raised in India and Jamaica, while she was born and raised in the United States (and lived in Canada as a teenager). I was born and raised in the United States, and my wife Andrea in Germany. While our first child was born in Germany, our other two children were born in Basel, Switzerland, where all three have grown up.
