I first heard of Steve Silberman (1957-2024) at the latest in 1994, when he published "Skeleton Key: A Dictionary for Deadheads" with David Schenk. Later, I discovered him on Twitter, where I followed his sharp, insightful, and witty posts on a wide range of subjects, from queer issues to jam-band music, and especially the history of autism and the concept of neurodiversity that he explored in his 2015 book "Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity". Today, when I began listening to the latest episode of the Good Ol' Grateful Deadcast, it was sad and moving to hear his voice after the news that he died Wednesday night.
