The other day, when I listened to Nick Cave's fourteen-minute-plus song "Baby, I'm On Fire" ("Nocturama", 2003), I added it to my still rather short list of songs to include in a possible course on Long Songs. The first two on the list are Bob Dylan's "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" ("Blonde on Blonde", 1966) and Taylor Swift's "All Too Well (Ten-Minute Version)" ("Red (Taylor's Version)", 2021). The course could also include Neil Young's "Ordinary People" ("Chrome Dreams II", 2007) or Al Stewart's "Love Chronicles" (1969). The only condition is that the song should be at least ten minutes long and have a whole lot of text (rather than long jams). (Andrew Shields, #111Words, 29 December 2024)
