Pandemic denialism while waiting in line for a concert

On Friday, while waiting to enter the Bird's Eye jazz club in Basel, I began chatting with someone who was also waiting to get in. I told him that before I'd heard the band on Wednesday and Thursday, I'd only seen two other concerts since I got my second dose of coronavirus vaccine in June – and he decried the virus as a hoax and the measures used to contain it as "a crime against humanity." I was so taken aback I couldn't think of what to say, and just then it was time to go inside. I've come across pandemic denial online, but this was my first encounter with it in person.
