DPP5 results

I've been very busy taking care of my children, since Andrea is in Lille for a conference for the weekend. Here, at last, are the results of the voting for week 5 of the Daily Poem Project:

The class voted on Friday morning, and almost all the votes went to two poems, seven votes to Laure-Anne Bosselaar's "Friends," and five going to Karin Gottshall's "The Current."

That result meant that the bloggers and the students voted for the same poem for the first time. I received 15 votes on the blog, and they were more widely distributed than in the class. For the first time, too, all the poems received at least one vote, but Bosselaar won with four, while Gottshall's poem and Philip White's "Raptor" received three each.

My short list was Bosselaar, Gottshall, and Meghan O'Rourke's "Descent"; in fact, I first intended to vote for O'Rourke's poem, but then Gottshall's poem got angry, as it were, and I went with my personal appreciation of any poem that evokes Lake Superior so effectively.

I'll be posting a call for votes for week six tomorrow (if childcare allows); in the meantime, of course, you can already read the poems on Poetry Daily (the poems from April 30 to May 6).
