In April, I'll be leading this discussion group about Kazuo Ishiguro's latest novel. Get the book now, read it, and come to the discussion (even if you don't live in Basel).

Book Discussion Group on
Never Let Me Go
by Kazuo Ishiguro
The discussion will be led by Andrew Shields. In one of the most acclaimed and original novels of recent years, Kazuo Ishiguro imagines the lives of a group of students growing up in a darkly skewered version of contemporary England. Shortlisted for the The MAN Booker Prize for 2005, it is a story of love, friendship and memory and charged throughout with a sense of the fragility of life.

Accident and 2 Coincidences
As a first real post, let me put in this link to a poem that I wrote in November and published in December, "An Accident and Two Coincidences."
I wrote the poem because one of the editors of Primary Care asked me to write the story down for their special issue on writer's experiences with their primary-care doctors. As they weren't going to pay me, I decided to pay myself, as it were, by writing it in verse.
