Now I'm listening to a whole bunch of Oregon, Ralph Towner's band with Paul McCandless, Glen Moore, and Mark Walker. I first saw Oregon back at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 1984, when the percussionist was still Collin Walcott. The perfect band to turn a fledgling Deadhead into a jazz fan.
Right now, "Joyful Departure" is playing from the album "Northwest Passage." It's also on Towner's "Ana" in a solo-guitar version. One of Towner's many compositions with major melodic hooks I can walk around singing all day.
